A Global Village
A global village. That’s how the evolution
of the telecommunication and data communication revolution maybe aptly described. The changing communications media have proven to have long-term
effects, which bring subtle but very important changes to views and perceptions of many.
Indeed, the world is at our hands with
modern communication facilities. Connecting through internet, cellular phones,
videoconferencing, and more, has made people all over the world closer. The communications satellite makes possible the transmitting of programmes between continents and events can be shown simultaneously as they happen in most parts
of the world
These facilities transcend race, culture, religion, ideas and beliefs. Distance no longer poses a problem when one is separated from family
or friends. The means of communicating have grown alongside the increased power of people to shape their physical world as well as with their increasing interdependence.
The rapid transmission of information,
its easy spread over long distances and ready access to information has become noticeable and important feature in today’s societies. With the growth of civilization and modernization came the need to communicate regularly at longer distances. Indeed, distance has no longer become a setback. Today’s generation would find it difficult to wait – because modern communication facilities have
made access to information within easy reach.
People all over the world are interconnected to one another because of modern communication facilities. The presence of various social sites in the internet has transcended cultures,
ages, nationalities, and even races. People are almost united as one, even with the seas, oceans, and mountains as barriers.
The dilemma on accurate and speedy
communication no longer poses a threat nor a problem. Whereas before it would take months or weeks to know what’s going on around the world, now it simply takes a click on the remote control or on the cellular phone. The generation of today, described as born with mouse on one hand and remote on the other – truly make the world a
global village.
